Our Committee
The Hong Kong Singers Committee is a dedicated group of members, nominated at the Annual General Meeting, some of whom have been involved for over 20 years. Each committee member plays a vital role in the smooth operation of the society, from applying for show rights, overseeing budgets and booking venues to marketing and organizing events like the pop-up choirs. Some members have also taken on the responsibilities of directing and musical directing productions. While they may not always be visible during rehearsals, a tremendous amount of work is happening behind the scenes to ensure everything runs seamlessly.

CHAIR
I joined the Hong Kong Singers last century as a fun hobby outside of work and to meet a wide range of people from all walks of life. As the Chair I organise meetings, source venues, apply for rights to shows and ensure we are moving in the right direction. I love the feeling of community and finding your people. My favourite shows have been Thoroughly Modern Millie (Millie Dilmount) and 42nd Street (Dorothy Brock). My funniest memory was during Guys and Dolls, singing Bushel and A Peck as Miss Adelaide in a chicken costume while pregnant!

TREASURER
I joined The Hong Kong Singers when a friend from school was in the Chorus of The Pirates of Penzance (I will let you work out how many years ago that was – the website is a great source of info!) and invited me to the show. I was so impressed by the quality of the production that I contacted the Committee at the time and started volunteering by helping with Production admin and backstage. A few years after, I joined the Committee and then became the Treasurer. Over the years, besides over seeing budgets and accounts, I have enjoyed being the Production Manager and DSM for too many shows to count! Being involved with The Hong Kong Singers has been such a great way to meet people and make new friends. I think my most favourite show must be Crazy for You where I discovered my love of tap dancing, which then led me to be part of the Ensemble for Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie. It’s been a pleasure to watch The Singers grow into what it is now and continue to attract fantastic new talent at every show.

SECRETARY
When I settled in Hong Kong in 1981, I didn’t know anyone except my soon-to -be husband, who played in a band every night. A dance colleague suggested I tag along to a Hong Kong Singer’s rehearsal of Pirates of Penzance, and from then on - I had a social life! Over the years with the Singers, I have been a performer, choreographer and director. I have also risen through the ranks of member, Honorary Member and now Committee, in the role of Artistic Director. My entire family have also been involved, as performers, backstage crew and Sound Operator/Designer, so I think you can say that we are hooked! I can’t think of a better way to spend my free time than doing what I love with a bunch of talented, enthusiastic individuals - even though it also happens to be my day job! It’s hard to pick a favourite show but I guess the big tap shows (42nd Street; Crazy For You; Thoroughly Modern Millie and Anything Goes) are a highlight, just because tap is my favourite dance genre and it gave me the opportunity to introduce many of my students to Hong Kong Singers - some of whom are now professional performers in the West End!

I joined the Hong Kong Singers 14 years 2011 and have been involved in many ways, as a performer, as a musical director, as a keyboard player and also helping out in other ways like Front of House.
For me it’s always about community. It has always been such fun working with many different people with an end goal in mind.
I loved Gypsy… the music was so great, but I also remember the joy of Sister Act when we were the first group to perform anything in Hong Kong after Covid… it felt like the whole of Hong Kong was dancing with us that night!!!

I joined the Hong Kong Singers to contribute my musical direction skills and passion for community building to a vibrant artistic group. Since then, I've been involved in a variety of roles, including musically directing shows like Rent, Spring Awakening, and Snapshots, as well as leading our community initiatives such as the popular Pop-Up Choir series.
What I love most about HKS is its ability to use the power of theatre and music to bring people together and build a strong sense of community. While it's hard to pick a favorite, all of the shows have a special place in my heart! My best memories are always tied to seeing the audience and cast connect through the shared experience of performance.

I joined the HK singers 2021 as a performer to be a part of a community and fell in love with the support, joy and fun we had during rehearsals and performances. I soon got involved with helping out when and where I could, but mostly behind the scenes. I joined the committee in 2024 and I have loved seeing so many new faces and being involved with HK singers. I don't think I could ever choose a favourite show because each one has bought me new friends, new experiences and a new perspective on life! My best memories will always be seeing cast members connect with material and music being performed and how much of a sense of belonging it gives them!

I relocated to Hong Kong in 2022 and was thrilled to discover the Hong Kong Singers. My first show was RENT in 2024. The society was so welcoming and it was a fantastic way to make new friends with shared interests. As a committee member I mostly work on marketing our shows and running our social media accounts. I’ve always enjoyed performing on stage and I love that I get to do that as well as contributing to the running of the society. I’m learning so much about what goes into putting on a show.

I joined the Hong Kong Singers in 2024 for the first time as a cast member for their production of Rent. I loved performing with different people of different backgrounds, and seeing how the stage lit them up and turned them into different people. I am now helping out as a committee member by taking photos, videos and Front of House when I can. It’s lovely to be part of this community and volunteering in an organization that empowers people through the arts.

Having not had much exposure to drama and music in school, I had developed a keen interest in watching shows that feature singing and dancing, and was automatically drawn to the Hong Kong Singers and its musical productions.
“South Pacific” and “Annie Get Your Gun” were among my favourites. But it was through joining the Christmas carol choir that I became more closely involved, by singing as a choir member, and later by helping with production, liaising with venue owners, choir members, and music director. We would kickstart the season with the Hong Kong Community Carols in Lok Hing Lane amphitheatre, Lan Kwai Fong, a free family event with volunteer musicians coming together to sing Christmas carols, followed by performances at hospitals, retirement homes, churches, and clubs. The excitement begins with the first rehearsal in October, building through the camaraderie throughout the season, and cumulating in the cheer we bring to the audience’s faces and hearts through the performances. All of this makes us want to come back the following year.
